Coming from three
generations of classical and popular musicians, Roger Harris
has been deeply involved with music all his life.
He began tinkering with the piano at the age of four
under the tutelage of his grandmother, who played piano both
in the classical concert hall and in silent movie theaters.
Ten years later he played his first public engagement
as a guitarist with the Johnny Hesser Big Band.
Now, after over
thirty-five years of playing professionally, Roger is accomplished
in a host of musical genres and has performed on over 30 instruments,
in venues all over the United States, Canada, Europe and the
Caribbean islands.
His talent
and versatility have been showcased under the spotlights of
Atlantic City, both as a solo artist playing piano and guitar,
and as a vocalist and sideman to acts such as “Kaleidoscope”
and the “David Grayson Show”, and his own show band “Roger Harris
and Diamond”.
A veteran of session
work for writers in Los Angeles and the on east coast, he has
recently begun writing and recording two CD works under his
own name. One,
a “green fusion” project, was inspired by and dedicated to Hawk
Mountain Sanctuary in Northern Pennsylvania.
The other is an all-original smooth jazz disc with brilliant
friend and collaborator Neil Wright.
Right now you’re
listening to a track off their smooth jazz CD called “In a Heartbeat”.
We’ll try to keep you informed of progress on the CDs
here as new tracks are completed.
After many years
of globe-trotting, Roger settled down in this area to be with
his wife, Reading native Cynthia Dyrda.
After many years as a professional costume designer for
road shows and dance bands, Cynthia is also a veteran of the
music industry, and is an active participant in designing and
preparing Roger’s stage presentation.
Though Roger still
travels occasionally to Atlantic City or to area resorts in
the Poconos or New York, he now prefers to perform locally,
remaining largely in the Harrisburg/Reading area and points
in between.
If you are
interested in Roger’s services, take some time here to listen
to some of the music representing many of the styles he can
present to your guests or audiences.
Note that Roger
also performs live with Neil Wright, as well as many other talented
musicians and vocalists in many different combinations.
You can get a chance to meet them as well here at this
site.
